Before the title rolls, we've got sisters fishing and bonding, and then old boy up on the hill... digging graves. Foreshadowing, or with some other purpose in mind?
While I don't like Merle, and have no idea how long he'll be on the show, I at least give him credit for being a bad ass. Killing two Walkers, one-handed is cool. Cauterizing your own arm stump with a hot iron? Where the hand was that you cut off yourself? That's hardcore.
Moving on... Jim is digging graves. Shane cuffs him. Sad story for Jim, living only because his family died. Back in Atlanta, I never would have suspected Mexicans! And Glen, noooooooo! Glen's my favorite character thus far. I know you readers know better than I do, but I hope Glen lives. He deserves it, especially after the guys at camp stripped his new car.
Okay, the Vatos. I figured Rick had bloodshed up his sleeve. I did not expect Guillermo's... er, Phillipe's abuela to show up and freeze the situation in the manner that she did. I am definitely frustrated with the Vatos; such a big front as big bad men, without even a moment for logical, rational discourse... especially when the threats turn out to have such softness behind them. Good on the Vatos for taking care of the elderly, but Rick was right; Guillermo is pretty damn stupid.
Suddenly, a van disappears! And we're running.
(I must interject my apologies. This has turned into a play-by-play; however, I find that if I don't do it this way, I might forget to give my thoughts on particular occurrences. Sound off if you don't like it. I may ignore you, but it'll be good to see you complain nonetheless.)
Fish fry - good. Jim is calm after recuperating from sun stroke - good. Dale paraphrasing about his watch - inspiring. Ed being sullen in his tent, and then awoken by a Walker - perfect!
Oh, shit. I was not expecting an attack of that magnitude. Whoa. Also, there seemed to be a lot of victims in the attack that weren't introduced in camp. I didn't realize there were that many token camp dwellers that were doomed to perish. I can't imagine being in Andrea's shoes, seeing Amy killed like that. Jim remembering his dream was creepy for them, I bet.
I wonder where the group will go from here. I assume they won't stay in the same spot. That would mean either going to Atlanta, or heading out of town. Atlanta has high risk, but potentially a high reward with potential supplies. Heading away seems low-to-medium risk, with about the same low-to-medium reward. Then there's Merle. He'll probably be back, which is good. The survivors will need a hand since they lost so many members in the attack.
S1:E5 tomorrow, I hope. Stay tuned!
